About
Muse
Shannon Richards (formerly Shannon Hird) is the
owner and designer of Muse patterns.
It all began back
in 1996. I was in college and wanted to make my own clothing and accessories
so I taught myself how to use my roommate's sewing machine. It wasn't
long before I was hooked!
For the next few years I honed my skills while working as a costume
designer, and fashion designer's assistant. In 1999 I designed a line
of handbags that were sold in many stores in the US, Europe, Japan and
Australia.
In 2002 I moved to San Francisco, California and had a "chance"
meeting with a women who owned a studio space in the city. She offered
to let me rent it out to teach sewing classes, something I hadn't thought
of doing prior to meeting her. I thought, 'Sure I'll give it a try'.
In September 2002 The "Muse Sewing Workshops" were born. Muse
was one of the first sewing studios of it's kind in the Bay Area - offering
fun classes to a new generation of sewers.
After teaching literally hundreds of classes to hundreds of creative
women and men I was inspired to launch a line of simple, modern, easy-to-follow
sewing patterns so people all over could join in on the fun.
I hope you enjoy
them!
